And once a while, I would try out some nutritious high in protein and dietary fiber fruit juice. Not for fasting but to have some replenishment beverage with good taste and healthy milkshake blends.

Whenever I have a chance, as with everything concern about health care, I will trying out the new best recipes of all kind, which have direct impact with natural healing effect. I was impressed by this unique fruit and it looks like mango, but not. So I bought 2 different species, one is oval in pointed shape another type is round like Apple Mango.

Varieties of weird and wild fruits, vegetables and herbs can be found easily in native areas especially in Sabah and Sarawak.  Like those unknown name type of fruit that is not popular in cultivation yet. While many of this valued fruit is unknown, perhaps only the native peoples knew about the usages and its valuable healthy medicinal benefits.  It's interesting to find out more......

The name of this fruit is also quite fancy too. Locally we called it as “Cheese Fruit”, or “Chesa Fruit”, some name it as “Butter Cheese Fruit”“Chessa Tiessa” or “egg fruit"......

Scientific name: Yellow Sapote, Canistel or Chesa
Malay name: Buah Mentega
English Name: Chesa or Canistel Fruit
Vietnamese name: Cay Trun Ga ~ "chicken egg plant"

The origin of this fruit is from the native of Southern Mexico and central of America.  And its name as “Canistel” is family of Sapotaceae, and the species of  Pouteria camphechiana. This name is derived from the Mexican town of Campeche.

This fruit is very common in Philippines, Manila market and usually selling by the local native. Its appearance of its flesh, texture like egg yolk, and in the middle consists of hard seed. I bought this "Chesa fruit" from the native market in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. When Canistel Fruit is raw, it is harden, and will be soften and ripe in 3 to 7 days when stored in room temperature.

The taste is a bit sweet, and taste like the local wild durian with a bit of persimmon taste to me. Very nice taste, creamy and sticky, some said it taste like cooked egg yolk.

It can be eaten raw, when this fruit is ripened, as the flesh is creamy and a bit of waxy after touched. The pureed flesh can be used to make into varieties of healthy recipe like ice cream, milkshake, salad cream, jam and very similar to custard paste.

The nutritional value:

  • Protein
  • Carotene
  • Riboflavin
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C

  • Fiber
  • Carbohydrates

I found this unique wild fruit is good for juice blends and making into healthy food, desserts and drinks. Its high fiber and nutrient content helps in promote smooth bowel movement and aid in digestion.
