In the researches found out the Peanut Root contain high valued of “Reveratrol” contents, the natural compound and the most powerful phenolic antioxidant found in peanut root, Reveratrol content can also be found in mulberry, grape and found in red wine for health benefit, it is natural plant polyphenol, which is easy to absorb and has a better curative effect when consume.

This soup provides resveratrol to inhibit the cancer and tumor growth, stimulate carcinogen detoxification, to induce apoptosis cell death in tumor cells, to delayed cancer cell in progression. Especially it is good to take it after chemotherapy to improve the body immunity to fight against fatigue and sluggishness. For women with hot flashes, menopausal, anxiety and depression, mood swings during menopause.

Ingredients:


  • 1 bundle of Peanut Root
  • 20 Red Dates
  • 5 Bei Qi 北芪
  • 3 - 4 pieces licorice root or gan cao 甘草 *Optional
  • 100gm of Goji or Wolfberry.
  • 1200 liters of water





Method:

  1. Rinse and wash Peanut root thoroughly, after few rinsing with running water. Soak peanut root for few hours to make it free of debris and mud.
  2. Wash Red Dates, Goji, Bei Qi, Licorice Root thoroughly. Ready to use.
  3. Boil water. Add in peanut root, and all ingredients.
  4. Boil for an hour. Remove the peanut root and herbals, drink the soup only.





Bei qi 北芪also know as huang qi 黄芪

English name: Astragalus, milk vetch

Function: Boost and prevent heart disease, immune system

Bei qi 北芪, Astragalus, or huang qi 黄芪 is used in traditional Chinese medicine, as general tonic for the benefits mainly for heart, liver and immune system. It provides harmonious energy (Qi) and blood flow to the liver. It is especially good for boosting vital energy, promote blood circulation, treat fatigue and weak, help to support and enhance the immune system, to improve appetite and invigorates energy. Also used for treating chronic hepatitis and as adjunctive therapy in anticancer.

I used with combination of other herb like Licorice root; it adds sweet flavor to the soup. Licorice root or gan cao, it has anti-depressant compounds, treat stomach ulcers and stomach problems. It contains of anti-inflammatory effect, to soothe respiratory, sore throat and inflammation, especially after chemotherapy, and help to prevent of dry throat and burning sensation in the bodily after chemotherapy treatment.


Licorice Root

Licorice root 甘草 has hydro-cortisone, quite similar to corticosteroid hormones, also known as natural source of mild estrogen properties. And therefore it is proven useful for the women with menopause syndrome. It stimulates the adrenal glands, help in reducing stress. Also help for internal cleanse and rejuvenate body to stay younger and healthier as an anti-aging soup. Those with uncomfortable symptoms of menstruation, and menopause, this soup help in soothing and have anti-depressant for insomnia during menopause.

TAMARILLO Red Dates Marmalade Healthy Drink





A wonderful red fruit I bought from local market here. This fruit taste sour sweet, the flesh inside is yellow with black crunchy seeds. Right here we named it as Java Plum, Love Fruit or Heart Fruit. But not, the actual name for this fruit is known as Tamarillo, it also named as “Tree Tomato” due to its taste like cherry tomato.

Tarmarillo is belonged to nightshade fruit as also ideal culinary fruit. This fruit is edible as raw when it is ripe will slightly softened, it is much easier to cut the fruit into half and eat it by scooping the flesh from halved fruit, to scoop out the flesh and eaten raw from the halved fruit. 


 

Please do not eat the skin due to its unpleasant taste. It is really refreshing and taste sour sweet. You can also peel its skin, or by cutting into slices.

There are many healthful ways to eat it raw, or as culinary recipes. I cook this recipe by using this fruit to made it as fruit jams, marmalade, salad, fruit juice, fruit wine, fruit sauces for pasta, dessert and ice cream, bake it as fruit cookies and cakes, it has good culinary qualities in cooking, e.g. sweet sour fish as natural sour taste in flavor, add sour taste to cook as curries. Also can make into chutney recipes. It is also good quality anti-aging skincare selling in the market. 


 

This fruit is classified as 3 types: Red, Golden and Yellow. The yellow fruit is less acidic than the red type which is much sweet in taste. Golden Yellow fruit usually cultivated in New Zealand. It is native fruit from Central and South America. It grows in sub-tropical or slightly warm climate. This fruit can also be found in other countries like Australia, widely grown in New Zealand and Asia countries in Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia.

Its Nutrients value: 

It provides essential vitamins that our body needs. Like vitamins A, B6, C and E with iron, Thiamine and its rich pro-vitamin A, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and magnesium and beta carotene.  

Major antioxidants properties like Phenolics, antocyanins, flavonoids and carotenoids, which protect against harmful effect of free radicals and reactive oxidants.  It has rich source of flavonoids which has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and protect against and neutralize free radicals.

Ingredients:

  • 20 Tamarillo
  • 50gm Red Dates
  • Brown cane sugar
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 glass of Water




Preparation:

1. Wash Tamarillos, blanching in hot water for 3 – 5 minutes, 












this makes easier way to peel the skin. 













2. Wash Red Dates and Goji. Soak in water for few minutes and rinse dry.
3. Remove seeds of Red Dates. Cut into fine pieces.
4. Squeeze Lemon into juice. 
5. Blend all ingredients with water to blend into paste form.





5. Cook it with low heat for at least for about 1 hour. Stir in Brown sugar and continue cooking till it has thickened to paste form. Done







6. Keep it cool. Then store in clean jar or jam jar, keep in refrigerator.













This Tamarillo Red Dates Marmalade can be served as healthy beverage, as jam to eat with bread as well.

Ma Chi Xian 马齿苋 Portulaca oleracea L.

When I saw this herb is selling in the market, I remember when young, my granny used to cook it as delicious dish, and in the practice of herbal usage to fight disease for physical health. She used it as therapeutic herb to help to get rid of the tapeworm and parasites in our stomach, we grew up eating this herb as vegetable, it is also dispelling heat and toxins from the liver as liver tonic. This is the cheapest edible vegetable for the poor family, but it is delicious healthy food.

Immediately, I bought 2 big bundles and cooked it with garlic. I like to cook it with garlic, it is my best choice of delicious vegetable dish. It is very easy to cook, simply add oil and fried with garlic and salt.  This dish turns out to be a sour and crispy in bite. Very smooth and soothing taste.


Done.....a big plate portion of at least 5 colors vegetable ~ Red, Yellow, Green, White and Black in colors "5 colors a day for better health".  This rich colorful vegetables is nutritious low fat food for my dinner. Some prefer to cook with eggs as healthy healing soup for digestive problem.

Even thought this kind of wild vegetable, it is very common and can be found growing wild at the roadside, farm or plantation. We can even get it as cheap as RM 0.50 per bundle in price. 
But do not judge from the cheapest price to underestimate its useful and healthy medicinal properties. It has been used in alleviating most of the stomach and colon illnesses, for lungs and liver cancer.







What is Ma Chi Xian "马齿苋"

Portulaca oleracea L. or common name as Purslane or verdolaga, in Chinese name as “Ma Chi Xian” 马齿苋, belongs to succulent plant in the family Portulacaceae, we also called it as “Pigweed” in our hometown. The village people used it as pig feeding food. Don't be surprised, today it has becoming popular healthy and alternative healing herb, also one of the well-known delicious dishes.

Medicinal properties of Purslane (Ma Chi Xian 马齿苋)


It has the medicinal effect and its nutritional value is very high. And in culinary usage it is delicious, sour in taste, it has extraordinary content of omega3 fatty acid, the Eicosapentaenoic Acid ~ the EPA, Vitamin A, B, carateniods, and vitamin C, dietary minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron.

In traditional Chinese medicine property is sour in taste and cold, its meridian channel to intestine, liver and spleen. It's cheapest and wonderful natural herbal therapy were based on its medicinal effect and its purposes.


Why Ma Chi Xian is named as five element herb in traditional herb?

Because the whole herb or plant is consisting of 5 colors, green, yellow, red, white and black.

  • Leaf is green in color
  • Flower in yellow,
  • Stem is red,
  • Root is white
  • Seed is black

In Traditional herbal is has been known as “longevity vegetable or herb”. It is drought resistant grass with strong vitality and can last for a long time expose to the sun without dying. The people regarded it as the "natural antibiotic" and "natural good vegetable and alternative medicine" in home remedy. It is commonly used as expectorant of internal heat, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, laxative and diuresis.

From the whole plant itself, the stem and the flower has the potent antioxidant properties. The scientist conducted the research to the Purslane, and discovered that it is rich in alpha-linolenic acid, can suppress the blood serum cholesterol and LDL, to lower the triglyceride production, and eliminates it and to prevent it from sending to the blood vessel wall deposits, and reduces atherosclerosis ~ prevent from build up of fatty deposits in the walls of the arteries. It protects and against of the heart and cardiovascular disease.

The leaves containing oxalate, like spinach. As it is advisable when using Purslane as natural therapeutic herb, for those with kidney stone history is not advisable or should take it with care. Excessive intake food in oxalate or oxalic acid, in long-term it may produce and cause the kidney stone.

Note: Start with low dose for any home remedies, possible some herbs may do well and it may also cause harmful effect or allergic reaction to it. In general, this herb not to say has no side effect, but it is less severe.


It helps in eliminate the roundworm, pin worm in the stomach, also treating infection, Inflammatory of the colon and intestinal disorder syndrome.

Purslane has great detoxification, antioxidants, and cooling effect for treating skin problem like eczema, dermatitis, itching and swelling skin, it helps to eliminate skin problem like pigmentation spot, prevent pimples and acne skin, as well as maintain the normal physiological function of the skin and delay skin aging, to keep our skin moisture balancing effect. 

Raw Juice Healing with Purslane:

Internally intake: 
Raw Purslane extract  or juice can be used to treat backwoods coli bacterial in the stomach.


Externally application: 
This herb has the varying degree in inhibitory action to the common pathogenic skin fungus, which can be used for skin rashes, fungus and ringworm.




For itchy scalp and head and skin fungus, apply of raw Purslane extract mixed with Burdock juice and apply to the infectious area, it may help to reduce itchiness, and has the anti-inflammatory effect. 







Natural Anti-aging herb:

The Purslane or Verdolaga 马齿苋 is richly including nutritional value of renieratene function with Vitamin A, E and Vitamin C, which has anti-aging, enhances the immunologic function, and to maintain the eye and skin health. And usually it is mixed with rice to cook into porridge is one of the home remedy for upset stomach and to stop diarrhea. It can be used either for diarrhea or constipation, it helps to smooth the bowel movement to prevent constipation. To drain damp-heat from the stomach and intestinal system.

Contraindication:
Not suitable for pregnant woman, it will cause the contraction of the womb, it may cause and induced earlier delivery of childbirth. As it has diuresis effect, and strengthens the intestines creeping movement function and cause laxative effect to smooth the bowel movement.

Kongjaban - Sweet and Salty Black Bean

Homes made of eco-friendly materials have become quite popular other than making fruit enzymes and vinegar. What I love most, this Side dish (Bancha) is my favorite in my recipes. Like radish, seaweed, cabbage and black bean. I enjoy the preparation of making such stuffs for leisure passing time apart for the concept of “well-being” (healthy living).







I like the Korean peoples’ appreciation for healthy living and eating, I found Korean recipes are very healthy, less deep fried and less oily. Most of their recipes are pickles stuffs like kimchi. There are endless varieties, and it is served as a side dish or cooked into soups and rice dishes.

This one Korean recipe - black bean sweet and nutty side dish, What I know this Korean dish is called “ Kongjaban” in Korean restaurant. Usually I would try to make more as I don’t really take junk foods, so these seasoned black beans are a protein-filled will eventually as my snack or appetizer for me.


Black bean is a very good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber, black beans' high fiber content prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal, Black Beans Give You Energy to Burn While Stabilizing Blood Sugar. In addition, they are a very good source of dietary fiber and folate.

When researchers analyzed different types of beans, they found that, the darker the bean's seed coat, the higher its level of antioxidant activity with its Manganese for energy production and Antioxidant Defense. Also promote optimal health and protein power plus. Antioxidants destroy free radicals, and when eaten regularly, have been shown to offer protection against heart disease, cancer and aging. It is believed that the proteins within the bean help the body better synthesize incoming calories and boost the metabolism.





Ingredients:

· 1 cup black soy beans, washed
· 1 cup water
· 1/2 cup soy sauce (I like Bragg Liquid Aminos)
· 1/2 cup sugar
· 1 Tbsp sesame oil
· 1 tsp sesame seeds

Note: To shorten cooking time and make it easier to digest, black beans should be presoaked

Why presoaking?
Presoaking has been found to reduce the raffinose-type ligosaccharides, sugars associated with causing flatulence.) There are two basic methods for presoaking.

1. Placing the beans in a saucepan and adding two to three cups of water per cup of beans. Bring to boil the beans for two minutes, take the pan off the heat, cover and allow to stand for two hours.

2. Another method is to simply soak the beans in water for few hours or overnight, placing the pan in the refrigerator so that the beans will not ferment. Before cooking the beans, regardless of method, drain the soaking liquid and rinse the beans with clean water.

Preparation:

1. Soak black beans in water for 2 hours, remove water, use water and bring to boil and cook for 15 minutes.

2. After cooking for 15 minutes. Use medium-low heat and add soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil. Stir to combine and continue to cook for 10-15 minutes.

3. Remove pot from heat and stir in sesame seeds. Serves 4

keep in fridge whenever I need snack, it really taste nice and healthy snack.
